BOMA Measurement Standards Virtual Series - Covering Office, Industrial and Retail!

The sessions will be presented by Joe McDonnell of American Building Calculations. Joe McDonnell is the President and Co-Owner of American Building Calculations. He has extensive experience in area calculations, as-built floor plans, training, education, and project management. Joe is a co-author of BOMA measurement standards covering commercial office, industrial, retail, and mixed-use properties. He has also served as an official interpreter and educator for the BOMA Measurement Standards and continues to assist with best practices, ANSI recertification, and updates to the standards.

Each session will begin promptly at 10:30 AM and will include 20 minutes of presentation followed by 10 minutes of Q&A.

Important attendance requirement: BOMA Basics on September 3 is required before participating in any of the later sessions. By submitting this form, you will automatically be registered for BOMA Basics. You may also select any additional sessions you would like to attend.

BOMA Basics
This introductory session will review the history and purpose of the BOMA Measurement Standards and explain why consistent and accurate area calculations matter. Topics will include the financial and legal effects of building measurements, leasing, valuation, revenue, transparency, and the prevention of measurement disputes.
Attendance at this session is required before participating in any of the remaining sessions.

BOMA Office 2024
This session will examine the BOMA 2024 Standard for Office Buildings, including its general application and the most significant updates from previous editions. Participants will learn how the standard is used to measure office properties, calculate rentable areas, and allocate common spaces.
The session will also compare the perspectives of architects and property owners and address the relationship between design documentation and the operational and financial needs of commercial real estate professionals.

BOMA Industrial 2025
This session will provide an overview of the BOMA 2025 Standard for Industrial Buildings and its application to warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and other industrial properties.
Participants will review the standard's general measurement procedures, important changes included in the 2025 edition, and how consistent measurements support clearer lease documentation, more reliable property comparisons, and informed real estate decisions.

BOMA Retail 2025
This session will review the BOMA 2025 Standard for Retail Properties, including the measurement of individual tenant spaces and common areas.
Participants will learn about the standard's general application, important changes included in the 2025 edition, and how to apply the standard accurately and consistently across different retail environments.
