The Gloria Drew Scholarship was created by BOMA/Raleigh-Durham in honor of Gloria Drew who guided many current and former members through the SMA, FMA and RPA course designations. Ms. Drew was employed at Durham Technical Community College from August 1973 through January 2003 and is currently working part time at North Carolina Central University. Over her 30 year career at Durham Tech, Gloria held the positions of Learning Laboratory Instructor, Human Resources Development Instructor, Curriculum Center Instructor, and was the Program Director for Community Services Programs.
This scholarship will be granted twice each calendar year to support the active development of a student enrolled in the SMA, FMA, or RPA course designation programs. The award is applicable towards the full cost of a local instructor lead program or the full cost of a "Self Study" course. The criteria and application process for the eligibility of this scholarship are listed below:
- The student must demonstrate a financial need for support by submitting a written request to bae@bomardu.com to be forwarded to the BOMA/Raleigh-Durham Education Chair. This request will include:
- The reason for financial assistance;
- What they expect to "take away" from the course they will be attending;
- How receiving a BOMI designation will influence their lives in the future;
- And acknowledgment and acceptance of the scholarship guidelines herein.
- Scholarship entries must be received three weeks prior to the start of the semester.
- All submissions will be reviewed and voted upon by the current Board of Directors and the recipient will be notified, in writing prior, to the start of the semester.
- The student must be enrolled in a course designation Program through BOMI.
- The student must be a current member (in good standing) with BOMA/Raleigh-Durham.
- The student must complete the course and achieve a passing grade of 70 or above. The student will submit their BOMI grade sheet to the Education Chair to receive the Scholarship funds.
- The award of this scholarship will be applied to the cost of tuition only for the class/semester applied for.
